The good news is that all your blood tests and health check-up parameters are normal. However, Grade 2 fatty
liver (hepatic steatosis) should not be ignored, even if
liver function tests are normal.
What does this mean?
Fatty liver occurs when excess fat accumulates in liver cells. In many individuals it remains stable, but in some it can progress to:
* Steatohepatitis (liver inflammation)
* Fibrosis (scarring)
* Cirrhosis over many years
What should you do?
1. Weight reduction is the most effective treatment
* Aim for 7-10% weight loss if overweight.
* At 82 kg, even a loss of 6-8 kg can significantly improve fatty liver.
2. Increase physical activity
* Your 3-4 km brisk walk daily is excellent.
* Add 2-3 days/week of resistance training (weights, bodyweight exercises) for better liver fat reduction.
3. Dietary modifications
* Reduce
sugar, sweets, fruit juices, soft drinks, bakery products.
* Limit refined carbohydrates (white rice, maida, biscuits, namkeen).
* Increase protein intake (dal, paneer, curd, eggs, fish, lean meat).
* Consume more vegetables, salads, and whole grains.
* Avoid frequent restaurant and processed foods.
4. Alcohol
* Even occasional alcohol should ideally be minimized until follow-up assessment.
Further evaluation I would advise:
* Liver Function Tests (if not already done)
*
HbA1c (screen for insulin resistance)
*
Lipid profile
* FibroScan if available, especially for Grade 2 fatty liver, to assess whether any fibrosis is present.
Follow-up
* Repeat liver ultrasound after 6-12 months.
* Monitor weight, waist circumference, and metabolic parameters.
