After a fall with pain radiating from the thumb/fingers up to the jaw, it is important to first rule out a fracture, ligament injury, or nerve irritation, especially since pain is worse at night. Until evaluated, avoid heavy use of the hand and keep it rested and elevated. For pain relief, paracetamol is the safest first option; if swelling is present, it can be combined with cold compresses. Avoid strong painkillers without examination. If pain persists, increases, or you have swelling, numbness, or difficulty moving the fingers or wrist, an X-ray and clinical review are strongly advised.
