A child of 3 1/2 years with red eye..could mean numerous causes .
As far as the description u provided point towards thousands of causes of red eye which can only be confirmed by examination by pediatric ophthalmologist.
. Not only Eye infection, conjunctivitis ,adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis can present in this way but in this age group yet another imp differential diagnosis is eye trauma, and foreign body in eye commonly seen in this age and ,is alarming and requires special attention and consideration.
Childs eye are delicate and not yet developed fully and also are predisposed to accidental injury which parents may not be aware of.
Most commonly it is seen the injury is caused by child's finger nails.so it is imp to get her examined by pediatric ophthalmologist and rule out eye trauma, and foreign body in eye.most of the times it is seen in our practice that parents buy over the counter medicine from chemist shop or do self medication on their own ,or buy some medicine as advised by some friend or relative for infection and when situation worsen they at a later date come to pediatric ophthalmologist and find out it was trauma or foreign body which was the cause .
And hence examination of child by pediatric ophthalmologist is of prime importance.
Consult your pediatric ophthalmologist and take proper treatment.
