Hunger still increased 1 month after stopping mirtazapine — normal
Hi everyone,
I took Mirtazapine for about 15 days for sleep, but it increased my hunger a lot, so I stopped it.
It’s now been 1 month since stopping, but my hunger still hasn’t gone back to normal. I’m still experiencing:
Increased appetite
Waking up at night feeling hungry
Difficulty maintaining sleep
I expected things to normalize within a few weeks, but it hasn’t.
I am feeling hungry extremely, like I have to keep eating

This can happen with mirtazapine. It strongly increases appetite via antihistamine and 5-HT2C blockade, and in some people the increased hunger and sleep disturbance can persist for a few weeks even after stopping, especially if sleep is still not well regulated. However, persistence beyond 3–4 weeks with significant distress (night awakenings due to hunger, difficulty sleeping) is not typical and should be evaluated. It’s also important to rule out other causes like anxiety, rebound insomnia, or less commonly metabolic issues. Please consult a psychiatrist for proper assessment and guidance treatment may be needed to normalize sleep and appetite.
