I am using hearing aid.
I experience severe pain in my ears while travelling by air. It starts mostly after 40-45 mins after take off and becomes very severe by the time the plane lands.
Please suggest me some remedies to avoid this pain as I have travel by air in the first week of June.
I am around 86 years old .

This is because of pressure changes in the air which leads to blocking of the eustachian tube. You can learn how to do a valsalva maneuver or try blowing a balloon.
30 mins before take off you can use otrivine drops in both nostrils.
Health Tips
forceful yawning or drinking sips of water also help

There could be
Wax in your ears due to constant use of hearing Aid
And if wax is not there then
While travelling always keep chewing chewing gum
You will feel less pain or no pain
Hi, I am Dr. Atul Kumar Nimawat MS ENT.
Ear pain during air travel is quite common, especially in elderly individuals and those with any underlying Eustachian tube dysfunction. The condition is called “aerotitis media” or airplane ear, and it occurs due to pressure changes during ascent and descent.
Possible Causes in Your Case:
• Age-related stiffness of the Eustachian tube
• Hearing aid usage may slightly reduce natural ear ventilation
• Nasal or sinus congestion (even if mild)
Next Steps
Using a combination of nasal sprays, chewing/swallowing techniques, and ear pressure-regulating plugs can help you travel more comfortably. Start preventive steps at least 30 minutes before flying and be especially attentive during the landing phase.
