My mother's ear drum had ruptured when she was an infant, she didn't get the treatment required for it. A few days back her ear discharge started with some noise and discomfort. The doctor performed a ct scan, now on the basis of the report he says that the operation needs to be done but there is no guarantee that it will not create any problem further because there is also an issue to the ear bone. I wish to have some advice regarding this. Thanks in advance to all the doctors.

Hello...
Your mother is suffering from Chronic suppurative otitis media with perforation of tympanic membrane.
Next Steps
she will need tympanoplasty i.e a new drum will be kept surgically which may be a cartilage or muscle covering [fascia] with mastoidectomy i.e the air cells of the bone behind the ear would be drilled out.
Health Tips
usually its a safe surgery and with good results if done correctly.
