Hello Doctor,
I am a 24-year-old male seeking guidance for my skin problems. My skin type is dry, sensitive, and acne-prone. I have recurring acne—pimples heal but new ones keep appearing. I also have post-acne marks, mild redness, and dryness, which gets worse in winter. My skin gets irritated easily, so I want treatment that controls acne without harming my skin barrier.
Current routine:
I have been following this routine for about one month. I use a gentle face wash twice daily. At night, I apply niacinamide 10% serum daily, followed by a moisturizer for dry and sensitive skin. In the evening, I use benzoyl peroxide 2.5% as a spot treatment only on active pimples. I also use retinol 0.3% twice a week at night, and I avoid using benzoyl peroxide and retinol on the same day. I do not use scrubs or harsh exfoliants.
Concerns and questions:
Despite this routine, acne keeps coming back, mainly on the cheeks and jawline. I am worried whether I am overusing actives.
