My son is 4 years 7 months old. His cycloplegic (after-drops) refraction showed:
Right eye: 0.00 SPH / −1.50 CYL × 180
Left eye: 0.00 SPH / −0.75 CYL × 150
Vision recorded as 6/9 in both eyes
The rest of the eye examination was normal.
The ophthalmologist recommended glasses. I'm wondering whether glasses are necessary immediately, or whether it would be reasonable to wait 6–12 months and repeat the eye test, since children's eyes can change as they grow.
Has anyone had a child around this age with a similar prescription? Did you use glasses immediately, or monitor for some time?
Looking mainly for experiences from parents and, if possible, pediatric ophthalmologists.

Standard medical guidelines generally recommend correcting astigmatism at this age if it reaches 1.50 to 2.00 diopters or if the child exhibits symptoms. While a child’s eyes undergo rapid changes and development, delaying correction can carry risks. Potential clinical alternatives to address this include immediate full correction, a conservative trial of partial correction, or close monitoring with a repeat examination in 3 to 6 months.
