Difficulty of swallowing
My father have difficulty of swallowing of hard meals since 6 month's. He is 51 years old. Now he has taken food with water and liquid curry. All tests even Esophagitis biopsy was done but results are normal. Only Antral gastric and GERD shown in report. Spirometry test show mild COPD. Gallbladder laparoscopy operation was done successfully 3 months ago. Spirometry test, X-ray chest pa, Ct scan of chest without contrast, Endoscopy biopsy, Barium Swallow test, endoscopy UGI, Esophageal manometry test, ultrasound abdomen, all blood tests , all tests was done. All tests are normal. ENT Doctor confirm no problem from ENT side. Why he has difficulty of swallowing? May Antral gastric causes dysphagia? What treatment should he take for this problem?

Hi COPD can cause dysphagia.Do check his oxygen levels regularly.Do follow these things which might help
Next Steps
1.Eat at a slow rate 2. Put the fork/spoon down between bites to help slow down 3. Avoid drinking through straws 4. Avoid consecutive drinking of liquids as this requires sustaining airway closure which is difficult for people with lung disease 5. Do not eat when short of breath; do recovery breathing first (pursed lip breathing) 6. Exhale after swallowing 7. Do not exercise immediately prior to eating 8. Take small bites and sips 9. Always eat in an upright position and do not lie down right after eating 10. Do not talk and eat at the same time. Speech requires coordinated timing of the breathing as does swallowing. Precise timing of both these mechanisms is too difficult for people with lung disease
