Thank you for your query.
Like any other physical illness such as diabetes or high blood pressure, depression is also a disease caused by neuro chemical imbalance in the brain . It is a disorder of mind in which a person may feel sad most of the time, lacks interst in doing things he used to enjoy earlier, may feel hopeless and worthless, can have disturbed sleep and appetite. Sometimes, when a person is severely depressed, they may have thoughts of ending their life. Depression can affect the quality of life of a person suffering from it by impacting the personal, social as well as professional life. However, the extent to which it affects someone depends on the severity of depression as well as the ability of a person to cope with it.
Depression is a curable condition, though often the treatment is long. With proper treatment and support most people are able to come out of it and lead a fulfilling life.
Hope this helps
