It's very unfortunate that a person from such a noble profession behaved in such a despicable way. If your friend's mental health is affected so badly kindly convince him for consultation and get him consulted for detailed assessment, so that appropriate treatment can be initiated.

If your friend's mental health is seriously impacted, it's important to encourage them to seek support from a qualified mental health professional. Here are a few steps he could consider: Talk to Someone: Encourage your friend to talk to someone they trust about their feelings. This could be a close friend, family member, or a mental health professional. Seek Professional Help: If your friend is experiencing significant distress, it might be helpful for them to consult a mental health professional such as a therapist or counselor. These professionals can provide coping strategies and support tailored to their situation. Practice Self-Care: Encourage your friend to engage in self-care activities that help reduce stress and promote well-being. This could include exercise, relaxation techniques, spending time in nature, or engaging in hobbies they enjoy.

I can understand what your friend must have gone through and it is very unfortunate that the doctor behaved in such a despicable manner but I don't think that the incident alone would have made him feel suicidal. It is possible that he has been stressed for a while now and the doctor's behaviour acted as the precipitating factor for him feeling like that.
Next Steps
It is advisable that he meets a Psychiatrist and has a thorough evaluation done, to understand his adjustments and stressors and identify if there is any mental health issue underlying.
Health Tips
Try to be there for him, support him, and tell him to not judge himself based on the doctor's harsh words and try to pick himself up

Hi there, A detailed medical and psychiatric history is always needed for every patient. In addition, a detailed mental status examination is also recommended for every patient to come for a diagnosis and the management of the case accordingly.
Next Steps
From your history about the patient, it’s not clear why your friend went to ask for a medical certificate from a doctor… was he under the treatment of the concerned doctor? Was your friend was under some psychological problems? As such generally doctors don’t give medical certificate if the patient is not under their treatment. Having said that, As per your description the behaviour of the doctor was not good. It’s also to know about details of the premorbid personality of the patient and previous history of illnesses if he had any!
Health Tips
Suicidal ideation by anyone is to be taken seriously .Don’t delay the treatment.Do communicate with the family members of your friend. Consult a mental health professional as soon as possible.
