Depression and impaired cognition issues
I m 46 year old male having depression since last 20 years I m currently using lamictal 300 mg after lunch 50 mg Paroxetine after breakfast and 10 mg after dinner.Antideprassant alone could help me only to little extent but add on Lamictal helped me to stabilise my mood to some extent.Still lot of improvement required.I have severe cognition issues after depressive episode like impaired short term memory and slow grasping that never improved till date inspite of using medication.Kindly suggest add on medication that helps in elevating my mood and help in improving my cognition issues which is a cause of concern for me. As per your description most probably your depression is of bipolar type which usually treated by mood stabilizer. Mood stabilizer like lemictal is very effective for bipolar depression but works perfectly when given at the perticular dose for a narrow range in serum, you need to go for serum lithium level test to find out the lithium level in your blood whether it is in perfect range required to treat depression and change doses if required. If that doesn't work you need to add another medicine. All the best
