Depression, alcoholism
My depression is two phased. for a week I am super energetic and hyper active, next week I don't even feel like getting up from bed l. This cycle continues and in last 2 years it has become terrible and affects my work and personal life. Earlier I was an all rounder with 100s of hobbies and now from past 3 years approx I only enjoy drinking. In last two years not even a single day has gone when I have not drank and the capacity is increasing month by month. Another major problem is that my spouse is also alcohol addict. We both have had a rough childhood because of family disturbances. Please suggest as we both have tried alot but of no use. We don't drink during the day even if it's an off from work but at night we can't resist.

Hi Please see a psychiatrist for medication and a psychologist for therapy for de-addiction and life style management. So it's important to solve the unresolved conflicts which I can understand are coming from your childhood or family disturbances.

Hi. I went through your query in detail and from what you have mentioned, it seems you have underlying bipolar affective disorder together with alcohol dependence. Bipolar disorder bis a condition in which a person develops either depression where he remains sad or develops mania where he becomes elated, overactive and overtalkative. Considering that such episodes are happening very frequently in your case, it seems yours is a rapid cycling variety. To complicate matters, you are also alcohol dependent. The best way forward will be to seek a psychiatric consultation and accordingly initiate treatment for both the conditions simultaneously. Your husband must also initiate treatment together with you for his alcohol dependence.
Next Steps
Seek a psychiatric consultation.
Health Tips
Earlier the treatment is started, better is the response.
