Dental issue
I had a flexible denture fitted 7 days ago. Since then, I have been experiencing persistent pain and discomfort. The gums under and around the denture are swollen, red, and tender to touch. The denture feels tight and seems to be rubbing against the gums, causing soreness and irritation. I am also producing more saliva than usual. The pain is significant enough that I have been taking painkillers, but the discomfort continues.

Hello Sir. I understand your concern. Although it is very common complain amongst most the denture patients. It takes around 15-20 days to get used to it, however for the comfort of patients we often advise “Polident Denture Fixative Cream “. It gives cushion effect between denture and gums , prevents friction as well prevents food lodgement in between gums and denture. However you must visit your respected Dentist first and explain them the points where you are experiencing pain. He or she might alter the denture to smoother surface to prevent further laceration.
Next Steps
Visit Dentist. Use Polident Denture Fixative Cream. Use Benzydamine mouthwash or mucopain ointment for symptomatic relief! But only after consulting to your Dentist .
Health Tips
Avoid spicy food. Mostly due to pain and discomfort patient discontinues using denture! Please do not stop wearing it …i hope the given advice will be helpful.

It is common to experience some discomfort and increased salivation for the first few days after receiving a new flexible denture, as your mouth adjusts to the appliance. However, persistent pain, swelling, redness, and tenderness after 7 days suggest that the denture may be causing excessive pressure or rubbing on the gums. The denture likely requires adjustment by your dentist. Please do not attempt to modify it yourself. Until you can be seen, you may remove the denture at night, rinse with warm salt water 3–4 times daily, and continue prescribed pain medication if suitable for you.
Next Steps
I recommend visiting the dentist who fabricated the denture as soon as possible so they can identify any pressure spots and make the necessary adjustments. If you develop severe swelling, pus discharge, fever, or difficulty eating, seek prompt dental evaluation.
Health Tips
This is a common post-insertion denture sore spot issue and usually improves significantly after proper denture adjustment.

Discomfort after Flexible denture is a common issue. It takes around 2 weeks time to feel comfortable after placement. Increased salivation happens due to presence of a synthetic body in oral cavity and generally subsides after some time. Redness and swelling are things to be taken care for. Contact ur Doctor if the pain is significant.

Hi, I understand your discomfort. As a dentist, let me explain: Pain & swelling 7 days after a new flexible denture is common, but what you described - red, swollen, tender gums + tight feeling - suggests the denture needs adjustment. Why this happens: 1. Pressure spots: The denture may be pressing too hard on specific gum areas. 2. Fit issues: Even 0.5mm extra can cause rubbing & soreness. 3. Initial healing: Gums take 2-4 weeks to adapt, but pain should reduce daily. If it's same/worse, it's not normal. Increased saliva is normal for first 2 weeks - your mouth thinks denture is food..
Next Steps
1. Do NOT stop wearing it completely, but give gums 2-3 hours rest per day. 2. Rinse with warm salt water 3-4 times daily - reduces inflammation. 3. Visit your dentist ASAP for "denture adjustment". It takes 5 mins. They will grind the pressure spots. No new cost usually.
Health Tips
Go immediately if: Fever, pus discharge, or pain severe even with painkillers. Painkillers give temporary relief only. The real fix is adjusting the denture. Please don't wait. For a detailed check, you can consult me online. I'll guide you on what to tell your dentist. Dr. Santhosh BDS

No need to panic this is a common complaint that patients have after getting a new denture. It generally takes 20-25 days for the new denture to get used to . You can use ointments for oral sore in the meantime. If the discomfort continues after 25 days you can visit to the dentist for the required adjustment in your denture.
Next Steps
Don’t stop wearing your denture.
Health Tips
Avoid spicy food and do not wait for more than 25 days. The problem should go away within 20-25 days.
