Well technically u should not , as orthodontist is the person who has studied orthodontics for full 3 years as compare to prosthodontist , who must have learned it through some course, guidance or anything but definitely not in that structured way and up to that level of orthodontist ..
Rest it also depends upon individuals capabilities and skills .
So technically , ethically , legally u should not get ortho treatment done from anyone else.
Next Steps
find out knowledgeable and sincere orthodontist .
Health Tips
maximum orthodontist don't bother regarding occlusion( how upper and lower teeth meet each other when a person closes his mouth) , they just bother regarding correction of cosmetic aspect ( front teeth alignment) . they don't correct changes happening in occlusion in back region of jaws . because that is difficult to treat ... time consuming.. treatment becomes little expensive , elaborate... and patient is always in hurry .. maximum time patients are after doctor to get rid of braces once his cosmetic concern are taken care ..
so I suggest every patient here please discuss with your orthodontist regarding correction of occlusion in the finishing stage after cosmetic correction..and find a suitable doctor who is ready to devote time for the same.
consequences of faulty occlusion are really serious and your chewing capacity can get effected..
best option is getting treatment done by orthodontist in presence of prosthodontist..

Talk to experienced dentist online and get your health questions answered in just 5 minutes.
Usually in private practice dentist will call orthodontist for consultations...try to get the treatment from orthodontist only because they will be well aware of tooth biomechanics.
