Dark pigmentation of skin
I have a dark patch of pigmentation on the nape of my neck since 2-3 yrs. At first, it was only a small patch but has now become quite large, about 5cm in diameter. I also have neck pain often which is sharp throbbing kind of pain. But the skin over the patch gives less sensation of touch as compared to other areas. I have tried consulting several doctors, most have given me no diagnosis and others have prescribed skin lightening medications that have not worked. Please help!

Thanks for the query. Skin care needs to be customized based on the presenting complaints. Based on your description, it appears that you have acanthosis nigricans. These conditions have a strong relation to one's internal health and it needs to be evaluated as often quoted - Skin is the mirror of internal health. Attempting treatment without understanding the pathology will be futile and make the course longer. Your dermatologist will decide a treatment plan for you after a consultation which probably will include a retinol based night cream and a vitamin C based lotion.
