Hello, I understand your concern Dark green or brown-colored stools in a healthy, active 16-month-old on formula feeds are usually normal and not a cause for concern. Offer iron-rich foods from natural sources as the baby transitions to family diet. Avoid over-reliance on formula after 1 year—gradually shift to full meals and regular milk (cow/buffalo milk up to 400–500 ml/day).
Next Steps
Continue regular diet (with formula, solids, water). Observe stool frequency and consistency: Soft, formed, or pasty stools are normal. No need for stool tests if: No diarrhea, mucus, foul smell; No blood, fever, vomiting, or weight loss
Health Tips
Red flags: Persistent loose stools or mucus Blood in stools Poor appetite or weight loss Baby becomes dull or irritable

If he doesn’t have diarrhea, stomach pain, vomiting associated with the green stool it’s not worrisome. Often the higher content of iron in the formula or a similar food intake with high iron content can lead to colour change in the stool. It’s not a cause of concern if the child is asymptomatic
