Hi. My mother in law was diagnosed with covid and had no symptoms from beginning and she had one covishield shot by then. Due to some reasons she took a test again on 14th day and still tested positive. However when we had a chat with our family doctor, he mentioned that as it has crossed more than 17 days from covid with no symtoms, she can come out of quarantine with no testing again required. I understand that government suggested that we can assume covid negative if 17 days passed with no symptoms, however I wanted to double check on the same if it is safe for her to come out of quarantine. Please suggest on this. Thanks!

If she's asymptomatic & has finished 17 days of isolation, it's safe to assume that she's negative & can come out of isolation.
Repeating RT-PCR is not necessary because even if it's positive, it's due to dead viral particles & cannot infect others
Next Steps
Don't worry, it's safe for her to come out of isolation period. :)
Yes. Earlier government guidelines was for 17 days. Now, they have been in fact revised to 10 days with no fever for 3 days. In this case, yes, she can end isolation. No need for repeat COVID test as it may show positive despite the patient recovered from it
