My friend drank poison two days ago. He vomited after drinking the poison. He was treated within 24 hours. The doctor advised that if the problem recurs then a suction operation would have to be done. After the 24 hours of treatment, now he vomits if he eats anything. Is it possible that the entire poison may not have come out from the stomach? What we have to do now? Is there is any medicine to stop the vomiting?

Iâm really sorry to hear about your friendâs situation. The fact that he received treatment within 24 hours is a good sign, but persistent vomiting after poison ingestion can happen due to:
Irritation or injury to the stomach lining (gastritis or chemical burns)
Delayed gastric emptying
Residual toxin effects
Rarely, narrowing (stricture) due to corrosive damage if a corrosive poison was involved
What to do now:
He should be taken back to the hospital immediately for:
Upper GI endoscopy to assess damage
IV fluids to prevent dehydration
Anti-emetic injections (e.g., Ondansetron)
If needed, gastric suction or further detox
Do not give any food orally until vomiting stops and medical advice is given.
There may still be residual irritation, even if the poison was mostly expelledâdonât assume itâs fully cleared.
This is a medical emergency, and follow-up care is crucial. Please donât delay.

Dear Concerned Friend,
This is a medical emergency requiring immediate attention. Persistent vomiting after poison ingestion suggests:
1. Incomplete Poison Removal: Residual toxins may still be present in the gastrointestinal tract.
2. Chemical Irritation: The poison may have caused significant damage to the stomach lining.
3. Systemic Effects: Potential organ involvement (liver/kidneys) needs evaluation.
Critical Next Steps:
- Emergency Re-evaluation: Return to the hospital immediately for:
- Repeat gastric lavage/suction if indicated
- Blood tests to assess organ function
- IV fluids and antiemetics under supervision
- Do NOT Attempt Home Remedies: Vomiting suppression without proper detoxification can be dangerous.
Warning Signs Requiring ICU Care:
Blood in vomit
Altered consciousness
Difficulty breathing
