See both drugs are different and both are good with respect to efficacy, both drugs have some side effects too now whenever a psychiatrist prescribe you something we will weigh the benefits to side effects ratio and will choose best for that particular patients in that situation. So its not like which drug is better and all.
It is not strong or weak, more or less side effects when it comes to depression and treatment. If it were so computers would treat better than humans. Understanding the biopsychosocial aspects of depression, genetic loading, symptoms onset, nature, progression and profile and the individuals medical condition an antidepressant along with or without CBT is selected based on the neurotransmitters targeted along with tolerability profile which are unique to every individual. In simple words for some venlafaxine would be a better choice and for some lamotrigine. Good luck.
See both have their individual uses and benefits. Cant really compare them both. Depends on what problem they are being used for. Venlor d is used for depression with somatic symptoms( body pains, decreased energy, etc) and lamotrigine is used in bipolar depression or in general depression which is not responding to regular antidepressants.
Both have some side effects but nothing major or serious..most are tolerable

There is no antidepressant like strong or weak. As per the research every antidepressant are similar in efficacy. And every medicine has side effects. Body of different individual may react differently to the medicine as per their genetics. It depends on individual factor which medicine is chosen.
