Cataract surgery & lenses
Hello, Doctor My mother is 63 & has cataract in both eyes. She wears cylindrical distant powerglasses. What would be the best lens for cataract surgery e.g. multifocal or mono/trifocal? How to select the lenses? Thank you.

Depends on her requirements and daily activities . Often a significant cylindrical power often requires what we call toric iols . Best get in touch with your cataract surgeon to make the correct choice! Setting your expectations on the table Before hand always helps!

Selection of an IOL is purely a discussion between the operating surgeon, patient and the patients’s family. A decision has to be taken after complete counselling and understanding the outcomes. Financial aspects are also important for some people . My patients decide after a complete discussion and it remains a privileged communication.

Hi, we need to evaluate the type of cataract, her profession and her needs, whether she has any other systemic disease etc. And then decide about the lens aftera detailed evaluation
