Dear human, thank you for asking this question. People with parents or siblings who have depression, are up to 3 times more likely to have depression too- this can be because of genetics (a specific “depression gene” has been identified by scientists), and other factors in the environment/ surroundings/ lifestyle. Sometimes, a child growing up with a parent or sibling who is experiencing depression, may learn to imitate their behaviour in certain situations. For example, a common symptom of depression is staying in bed for days at a stretch; something that the child may not find unusual, if that is what they see frequently. To answer the second part of your question, changes in hormones (menopause, childbirth, thyroid problems, etc.) can also create depressive states. If you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Next Steps
If you are concerned about yourself or a loved one experiencing depression, or are worried about the possibility of developing depression, please reach out to a mental health professional- we are happy to provide you with support. Take care!

Yes! More likely influenced by the habit and lifestyle. Depression is the state of mind predominantly dictated by hormonal imbalances, trace elements and environment. Early intervention would help to sort out this issue in a systematic manner.

Yes, genetics can be a cause for depression. When there are parents with depression, that environment would also affect depressive traits in a child. Long-term psychotherapy can help manage symptoms, especially if the whole family is in therapy
Next Steps
Seek the help of a psychologist
Health Tips
A psychiatric consultation could aid the therapy process
