Calcium and PTH
Hello Doctor, After Thyroidectomy is there any chance that Parathyroid are working fine but serum Calcium is low because of secondary reasons if so what could be the other reasons for low calcium after Thyroidectomey.

After total thyroidectomy I. e removal of both glands , decreased calcium levels are due to usually temporary parathyroid not functioning. This can b taken care of by calcium and vit d supplements. Other causes can be after dropping of calcium after hemithyroidectomy ie half removal of thyroid
