Borderline Personality Disorder
I am a 27/Male. I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder one year back by a psychiatrist in Delhi. Previously I had been on treatment for Depressive Episode. Previous year I was started on Lithium 450 mg OD and Vilazodone 40 mg OD. I am gay, out to my family and friends and wish to consult a gay friendly Psychiatrist and a Clinical Psychologist in Chandigarh with whom I can freely discuss my sexuality and mental health problems. I have constant feeling of emptiness, hopelessness and a very pessimistic outlook towards life. I can never feel happy. To counter the emptiness I indulge in reckless vehicle driving, binge drinking and occasionally monetary spending. I have sudden and intense mood swings beyond my control. Any help will be appreciated,Thanks.

All of us have strengths and limitations in the way think, feel, behave or cope with stresses. It's our vulnerabilities that gets exposed when things don't go the way we want them to resulting in certain dysfunctions like automatic negative thoughts, emotional lability, feelings of emptiness, fear of abandonment leading to interpersonal issues and in some cases certain behavioural issues like impulsivity, anger issues, self harm etc. This in some people can get reinforced and form a pattern which is usually referred to as personality disorder. It's just a name given to certain patterns of thinking, feeling and behavior leading to some dysfunctions at times.
Next Steps
Its important you get present to your strengths and limitations in a very non-judgemental way. The depth of insight into this can be very empowering. Don't fight with your emotions or the dysfunctions you might get into at times. Start focusing on how you stay conscious about these issues which are normal (let's say...understandable) and not let them affect your functioning, behavior or relationships as much as possible. Carry on living your life like this and recommitting to this every time there is a set back, you will see the beauty of life unfold !
