Borderline HbA1C with normal fasting
Hello , since past six months to 1 year my HbA1C is howevering around 6.4-6.7 range . My fasting sugar in lab test is normally 90-100 and in glucometer 100-110 . Inspite of my recent effort to control sweet intake it is not going below 6.4 and as i am pure vegetarian my diet is mainly dal roti subzi and rice all time . Do you think it's a concern if it does not go below 6.4 and if this range is maintained can in continue to avoid medicine which I am not inclined to opt for ? I don't have any specific health concern My liver , kidney , Lipid profile are all perfectly normal . Though I am overweight ( BMI around 29) Kindly guide

An HbA1C of 6.4 to 6.7 sits in the prediabetes range, just below diabetes. Your fasting sugar, liver, kidney and lipid results are all normal, which is reassuring. At your BMI of 29, weight loss and continued diet control can genuinely still bring the number down.
Next Steps
Losing even 5 to 7 percent of your current weight makes a real difference to HbA1C. Cutting rice or refined carbs at one meal a day helps too. Recheck your HbA1C in 3 to 6 months before deciding on medicine.
Health Tips
See a physician or diabetologist to confirm this plan and watch your numbers, since 6.4 to 6.7 can still drift upward without consistent effort.
