Bleeding from nose
Dear Doctor, My father had a occurence of nose bleeding a week back that continued for an hour and was brought in control through an emergency treatment. Though his blood reports are normal, I am not sure about the reason for this. He had similar incidents two times earlier but in a span of 2-3 years. Can you please advise if this seems to be a case of high blood pressure or some issue in nose. He is not taking any medicine but has hyper dry skin problem. He also had high BP but is not taking any medicine currently. Please suggest whom should we consult - an ENT specialist or a General physician. Regards

Hello there. Bleeding from nose usually occurs in majorly two conditions if there is any kind of trauma to the nose or internal organs and other reason is high blood pressure when the body chooses the nose as outlet for blood to reduce the pressure otherwise it can cause hemorrhage in the brain. It is most commonly seen in elderly patient who are having high blood pressure. Since you have mentioned your father is a person having high blood pressure and he is not on medication that is a very risky situation. It is your duty to pursue him to take his BP medications regularly otherwise same scenario me follow in the future or if by some chance there is no bleeding then it might cause hemorrhage leading to a stroke and make him paralyse for lifetime. My suggestion would be to get a complete body checkup done and if she is having high blood pressure continuously then he should be started on blood pressure medication.
Next Steps
I would advise you to consult a General physician at first because he can lead you to the proper specialist whether you require a ENT, a cardiologist or so.
Health Tips
inside of the nose mask by using Vaseline petroleum jelly. Use on regular basis.
