Im type 1 diabetic and I'm suffering from bad breath from a long time.
I've visited dentist 2 months ago and got my teeth cleaned and cement filling done. According to the dentist my mouth was all good. But even after getting all the treatment done I still have breath.
Ps- I brush twice daily, use mouth wash 2-3 times daily and I also use tongue scraper.
What else can I do to keep my mouth clean and my breath fresh. Please help!

Hi,
Diabetes can often result in high glucose levels in saliva that leads to increase in bacterial load in the mouth which causes more plaque and bad breath. In case you have a fruity odor to your breath or a nail polish like odor then it can be because of ketoacidosis. This is usually accompanied with a dry mouth. So you need to determine what kind of bad breath you have. If this is the case then you must monitor your insulin levels and consult your physician for it.
As you say that you are regular with your oral hygiene but I would suggest some changes:
> Brush twice; once after breakfast and then before going to bed.
>Please use a normal white toothpaste; no gels and no ayurvedic stuff.
>Do not overuse mouthwash. Rinse with warm saline(salt water) if you feel like rinsing.
>Try and floss. It is often neglected but flossing makes a lot of difference in oral hygiene. You can use a thread floss or a Oracura water flosser (read about it if you have not heard about it ).
.>Tongue scrapper is good. But be gentle with it.
>You can use sugar free chewing gums to keep your mouth moist.
Health Tips
Drink water to keep your mouth moist to avoid a dry mouth. Have a good diet to keep your insulin levels in check
Hello ma’am,
Continue with your toothbrushing, mouthwash and tongue scraping.
Just add one more regime to this.
* Warm saline Gargles three times a day that is
add half teaspoon salt in one glass of Luke warm water and gargle with it.
You will get the results in a week.
Sometimes prolonged use of some medications can cause dry mouth, which leads to interruption in self cleansing mechanism of saliva. Leads to bad breath.
Acidity can be another reason. Have sips of water every hour lillte by little, 2.5-3 litre per day. Consume food every 2-3 hours
Have T. Rantac 300,once or twice a day as per requirement, empty stomach or before food
Use dental floss twice a day after food.
Brush 2 times/day, after food.
Mouthwash: orahex pro, take 10 drops directly in mouth, hold for 3 minutes,, if you swallow by mistake, no harm,,spit out after that. Followed by that DO NOT eat/drink anything or rinse your mouth for next half an hour.
