My son completed 1.5 years. But he is not responding to his name, and not yet started walking independently. Other than that he makes eye contact, plays will all toys, arrange ring toys correctly, put some shapes sorter correctly. Understands, water, train, come, cow, dog, and few more. And blabbers . Says amma only clearly. We are deeply worried and has cut screentime completely for the past 15 days. Earlier he used to watch miss rachel lot. Is this normal or need assessment?

Hello mam,
1) u did right by cut down screen time completely
2) Motor milestones- delayed if he has not started walking
3) Speech - also delayed
4) hearing sounds normal from your description
5) u need to take seriously this issue to focus on child at this early stage , on his development

Health Tips
Plz look closely if it is speech problem or motor or both , in both cases approach will be different
Hello, I understand your concern
It’s good that your child makes eye contact, plays meaningfully, and understands simple words — these are encouraging signs. However, since he’s not yet walking independently and not consistently responding to his name, we should do a developmental check to be sure everything is on track.
Possible reasons:
Mild speech or hearing delay
Screen-time effect
Late motor milestone — some normal variation, but needs monitoring
Rarely, global developmental delay or early autism spectrum features
Next Steps
Hearing test (BERA or OAE) — to rule out hearing loss
Developmental screening (using tools like ASQ or M-CHAT)
Encourage stimulation at home: Talk, sing, read simple picture books daily, Play interactive games (“Peek-a-boo”, “Where’s mama?”)
Encourage imitation and turn-taking
Avoid screen time completely for now
Encourage gross motor skills — hold hands and help walk, use push toys, allow floor play barefoot
Health Tips
Reassess development after 4–6 weeks of active play and stimulation. If no improvement in response to name or speech, refer to Developmental Pediatrician / Early Intervention Centre
If his development milestones earlier like head holding sitting standing on time then perhaps this is due to mobile usage. I recommend to stop it completely and make sure you speak one language at home and with him to prevent language confusion. Also would be good idea to take him to the park to play with other children. Overall I am not overtly worried
