It is more advisable to give only breastfeeding. Avoid formula feeds. Milk production will increase only if the baby feeds from the mother. Breastmilk is free and easily available. It is protective for the baby and benefits the mother also.
Next Steps
Speak to a lactation consultant/pediatrician and they will assist with breastfeeding.

Breast feeding is best for you baby . It is also good for the mother as it helps uterus to contract and effective lactation reduces and stops bleeding in the mother . Check that the mother and baby are comfortable during feedand baby is latching on properly . See that the baby suckles for about 20 minutes . Sometimes they fall asleep after a few sucks . Flick the sole to wake and feed the baby . Every cry of the baby is not a hunger cry and does not require a feed . Baby may be soothed by kangaroo care method . Check weight alternate days . If weight gain is satisfactory , you don't need formula . Please remember , the more the baby suckles , the more is the milk output of the mother .
Next Steps
Consult a lactation expert .
Health Tips

Formula is only temporary. For next few days. Feed on breast milk every 2 hours and then give formula only if baby is crying for more feeds or waking up too early for feeds. Day by day decrease the amount of formula feeds. Give good nutrition and plenty of fluids for mother. Remove any stress from your mind. It can affect milk production. If feeding or latching issues r there see authorised youtube videos for correct positioning or ask your pediatrician.
