B12 Methylmalonic acidemia with Me/AdCbl
My father aged 51 is diabetic and pure vegetarian with milk. We got the Urinary, Methylmalonic Acid and Creatinine done. Urinary MMA- 9.7 umol/L Urinary Creatinine- 6.1 mmol/L MMA/Creatinine Ratio-1.59 His eGFR-108 which denotes good renal function. So the doctor diagnosed him with B12 deficiency ans gave easily available Methylcobalamin 1500mg for 4 weeks and then repeat test. Can Methylcobalamin(MeCbl) reduce MMA?, as Adenosylcobalamin (AdCbl) form is learnt to be directly involved in reducing MMA and not MeCbl. Shall we search and start AdCbl supplements or is there proven studies of MeCbl reducing MMA/ Intracellular conversion of MeCbl to AdCbl. Kindly share your experience and views.
