Asking a doubt
I just want to know , why your treatment takes so much time??... Actually i consumed ganja(cannabis) during depression , which took me to a panic attack of death... Ok So, i just lost my brain power... Psychologically we will say i had symptoms of OCD...but i dont had ocd... . I just lost my brain power , which earlier was perfect to think and all... . Isn't there any syrup or something to fill my brain with serotonin, dopamine and other chemicals ...so that i have my brain back.. .i mean if cough is there , we drink cough syrup and cough is gone... . So i just lost my brain power , isnt there any syrup ,or mixture of brain chemicals to make my brain back again... . Why so long treatment??...its been 5 years and now i improved ... Doctors write my disease as depression, anxiety, psychosis symptoms etc... But i know , i just lost my brain power from before... Simple fill it back again

Hi! There are two things you need to understand. Firstly, What though understand about yourself may not be the exact physiology. It is known that people who are already vulnerable to neurological conditions get worsened by 'ganja' use. Chronic 'ganja' use can lead to many deleterious effects. These will require long term treatment along with complete cessation of the drugs. Secondly, the brain is a very complex organ. There is no specific drug delivery system so far. Along with this out is protected by a special barrier. It does not allow anything external to enter in that easily. And even if it does, it takes a long time for these drugs to begin acting. I understand that you are frustrated with the long drawn treatment course, but usually cannabis related symptoms are treated for a short duration with gradual tapering off within six months, provided you stopped the use completely. If you are being treated for five years, maybe your diagnosis is not related to cannabis. Alternatively you can consider a second consultation with a different psychiatrist. Hope this helps you.

I’ll answer your questions: *Medicines take around 8-12 weeks to reach a steady state ...... and then it requires few month to act properly * Ganja can produce a plethora of psychiatric symptoms in some persons - these may be transient (for few days to months) or from months to years in others. Some persons may not have any major symptom. Ganja (cannabis) produces these symptoms esp. in vulnerable persons by altering the neurobiochemistry (brain chemicals). There is no concrete way to know who will get what effect. There are no “syrups or brain chemicals” that one can take and “refill” the so called brain power. With regular medication, psychotherapy and certain activities most persons can attain excellent level of functioning (like prior to illness).

Consult your psychiatrist for “educational sessions” about your illness

As technology advances, we feel that we can control every phenomena by just wishful thinking. However, nature has it's own ways of working which is way beyond human control. We psychiatrists, deal with the brain. Different diseases, different parts of your body, take different time to heal. Brain is a very complicated organ. And mental illnesses require molecular fine tuning of the brain! It's quite a few chemical reactions that a brain has to go over and over to recover from a mental illness. Anyway, I guess your frustration is due to the personal angst you are going through as a victim of mental illness. But generalizing and wishful thinking will only increase your frustration. As mentioned by the other doctor, take a second opinion if you are dissatisfied with current treatment. That should help.

✓ Does Diabetes get better in 5 days?, Do heart disease get better in 5 days? Does thyroid problem get better in 5 days? etc etc ✓ Depression, anxiety develop as a result of neuro-chemical changes in brain, that may be long term, sometimes even life long just like Diabetes, thyroid problems etc. ✓ Depression, anxiety and all mental health problems are not equivalent to cough and Cold. You are comparing chronic problems with acute problems. ✓ Consult online on practo for the detailed Evaluation and Formal assessment to diagnose you accurately. ✓ You may need a Physical appointment also to understand your condition better. ✓ And you seem to be unsure of what condition you have : Depression, Anxiety, OCD or Psychosis. You have mentioned all 4 in your post. All 4 are entirely different. First get an exact Diagnosis. ✓ One time Ganja use do not lead to life-long Psychological problems. It may trigger your problems to which you already had biological vulnerability.
