Applying oil Vs not applying

Could anyone explain is there any difference between applying oil and not applying oil on scalp since it is more confusicing that some dermatologists says not to apply

Hello! Usually dandruff of scalp happens due to excessive oil secretion of skin of scalp. Applying more oil can worsen this dandruff hence oil has to be avoided in such cases. Some cases of dandruff may be due to a dry skin of scalp where oil application may help.
