If you have taken only for a short time you can stop. You can taper by cutting one. After 4-5 days, reduce further. Start other measures to control anxiety such as relaxation, CBT for changing thoughts causing anxiety. All this takes time so meet a good therapist once a week for 2-3 months who is trained in all this.

Hello, Anti anxiety medication like alprazolam do possess potential of being addictive, however if used in a supervised manner the risk can be minimized. Since you are on a combination of paroxetine (paxidep cr) and alprazolam (anxit) it seems that they have been prescribed by a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist will decrease and stop anxit very soon and is likely to continue paroxetine for you. However the best can be told to you by the psychiatrist who has assessed you in person, face to face. Hence please discuss these apprehensions with your psychiatrist in next follow up. Hope this helps you. Best wishes for your health and future.
