It may be due to lateral ankle sprain & an injury to talofibular ligament.if u don't heal it properly then it may calcified and makes recurrence injury chances in future.Take Grayson technique along with stability protocol for joint

Generally athletes get ligament tear, in common words sprain due to excessive rotational force which will cause pain if not healed properly. Since you can able to walk and withstand the weight of your body normally from past one month chances of having fracture is less, so its a high ankle sprain which would have happened while you are playing...generally it takes 6-8 weeks time to heal but if you resume your athletic activities in between without taking rest, you will have pain again. So consult a orhopedician for further management.

Do you have complete range of motion at the ankle joint? Apply ice for 10-12 min and repeat it 5-6times a day. Research shows that an ankle sprain needs to be rehabilitated for 6-8 months in order to avoid repetitive injury. Rehabilitation must include- soft tissue release, stretching, strengthening exercises, proprioceptive training and concluded with plyometric and agility drills. If you do not complete this 6-8 months of rehab, you will sprain the ankle again. So don't ignore the problem and see a physiotherapist for rehabilitation. Also, continue icing.
