Hi these white spots are nothing but tonsil stones. Tonsils filter bacteria and viruses that enter our body through the oral cavity. These stones are a sign of inflammation of the tonsils. It causes a weird sensation like an obstruction in the throat hence the discomfort. There is nothing to worry, vigorous gargling  can dislodge the tonsil stone. Coughing or even using a water pick will help. So as suggested by the doctor rinse thrice daily with saltwater. Maintenance of oral hygiene is important, brush twice daily and use a tongue clean to prevent further bacteria buildup and bad breath.
