A vitamin D level of 8.7 ng/mL indicates moderate to severe vitamin D deficiency. Since your previous level was 4 ng/mL and improved after taking cholecalciferol, it shows that your body responds to supplementation, but the level is still not adequate. Your night shift work likely contributes to the deficiency because of limited sunlight exposure, which is the main source of vitamin D production. Persistent low vitamin D can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness, bone pain, and low immunity if not corrected properly.
Next Steps
• Continue Cholecalciferol 60,000 IU once weekly for 6–8 weeks (after consulting a doctor). • After the correction phase, switch to maintenance therapy such as 60,000 IU once monthly or 1000–2000 IU daily. • Take the supplement after a meal containing some fat for better absorption. • Repeat vitamin D level after about 3 months to ensure it has reached the normal range (usually above 30 ng/mL). • If symptoms like muscle pain or bone weakness are present, a doctor may also advise calcium supplementation.
Health Tips
• Try to get 15–20 minutes of sunlight exposure at least 3–4 times per week, preferably between 10 AM and 1 PM. • Include foods rich in vitamin D such as egg yolk, fatty fish (salmon/tuna), fortified milk, yogurt, and mushrooms exposed to sunlight. • Maintain regular sleep and balanced meals, especially with night shifts, as poor lifestyle patterns can worsen fatigue and deficiency symptoms. • Avoid stopping supplementation too early, as vitamin D levels often drop again if maintenance doses are not continued. If you would like, you can share your recent reports or symptoms like fatigue, bone pain, or hair fall, and I can review them and guide you further during an online consultation.

Low Vitamin D levels are commonly due to reduced sunlight exposure, which is common in patients working night shifts, leading to decreased skin synthesis of vitamin D. Other contributing factors may include poor dietary intake, sedentary lifestyle, or limited outdoor activity.
Next Steps
Start Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) supplementation – usually 60,000 IU once weekly for 6–8 weeks, then monthly maintenance as advised by a doctor. Encourage early morning sunlight exposure (15–20 minutes/day). Include vitamin D–rich foods such as Egg yolk, Salmon, Fortified milk
Health Tips
Consider checking Serum Calcium Test and Vitamin D Blood Test follow-up after treatment. If symptoms like fatigue, bone pain, or muscle weakness persist, further evaluation may be needed.
