The reason to place a cap is we remove the food supply and nerve supply of the tooth in root canal procedure due to which the strength of the tooth reduces tremendously. In the future it can fracture. Also there is a direct connection between the filling and the canal due to which it can lead to re-infection in the future. So to avoid this the cap is placed.
