Use ice packs 8-10 mins, twice a day. Do some ankle movements in all directions to the possible ranges and start standing on one leg at a time for approximately 30 seconds, repeat this 10 times in one go, twice a day.

You should be using an ice pack of it is a recent sprain and if you have swelling.
Next Steps
Wrap a compression bandage around the foot and keep it elevated. Rest your ankle as much as you can. You can start with gentle range of motion exercises while in the bandage. Move your foot up and down while in elevation. It’ll help you get reduce the swelling. It’ll be better is you approach a therapist for learning the exercises.
Health Tips
Make sure that your bandage is not too tight. You should start the bandage just below your toes; it should be snug. As you move upwards towards your leg, make sure you decrease the pressure with which you’re applying the bandage. It’ll help you drain the swelling better.
