hello, scaling and root planing doesnt require an anaesthetic injection. also scaling is not painful.

usually at this age there are no deposits or infection are to this extent so that deep cleaning is required. but if you are advised this procedure it must have been required. dont get anxious over injection. it will be just as discomforting as you are injected elsewhere in body. after that whole procedure will be a smooth ride.

Anesthesias will make her treatment pain free. Injections are pain less as the needle used are very thin.

Hi, Deep scaling with anaesthetics is required when there is bone loss , pocket formation and the need to clean deep below the gums .cleaning in such conditions would hurt and hence anesthetics are used to make it painless. So to answer your question, injection is necessary to avoid pain , if no pain or minimum pain is there during the procedure then anesthetics can be avoided. The real question is do you need  the deep cleaning  ?

Dear Sir ! Even i hate the sensitivity caused by Scaling and Root Planing. It is a annoying feeling but is bearable. She will not experience Pain per say. But just annoying sensitivity like when we get after drinking cold water. This Sensitivity is bearable by most. But if she is a little too sensitive, then i shall suggest Novocaine Gel. This is a Anaesthetic gel applied on the Teeth like a cream to Numb the sensation caused from Scaling and Root Planing. It is Non Invasive [No Needles :) :) ] so she can happily get treatment with reduced sensation.

Hi Root planing cannot be performed without a shot as we go a bit deep in gums So it's better to take the shot and go with the procedure Regards
