Root canal can be started after evaluating how much of the tooth structure is remaining and since it is long standing infection it might require 2-3 sittings, you must consult a dentist asap otherwise it may lead to pus formation and swelling.

Please don't wait further and get RCT and crowning done. It's got infected now which is causing u pain. Further delay might cause lots of tooth structure n the term will become more weak and u might not b able to save it n will have to get it extracted

U dont have to worrry. Just go for root canal treatment. If the rooth structure is lost on major scale then dentist have to go for post and core and after then capping. Which might take one week
