Recently I had undergone root canal treatment and the doctor had suggested that they do post and core for crown placement. He had advised me that it is quite normal to have screw and then place the crown. But I have not undergone this kind of procedure previous, so little bit apprehensive. Is it ok to have screw for crown placement and is it the current trend?

Hello.
1)If the tooth structure is compromised, less and weak, placing post and core is normal, you can proceed with it for better strength and stability.
2)Previous your tooth structure would have been sound enough hence they haven't used it, as it wasn't necessary

Hi post support to enhance the structural integrity of the tooth is needed if the lose of tooth structure due to decay is considerable and screw post are not commonly used instead fibre post are bonded
If adequate enamel is present there are other kind of crowns like biomimetic glass ceramic crowns can be considered
