Please suggest if I need therapy

In march this year I was diagnosed with anxiety and ocd. My psychiatrist told me about medication and asked to practice a few meditation exercises. I did all that except medication, I don't want to be put under. And after that I got pretty distracted but now I have started feeling very low. I am angry more than before, I feel detached from things, I think I feel lost and confused as well... I am mostly unhappy and stressed about something or the other. I don't know if I should take sessions and If yes should I take offline or online sessions... Most of all I am confused to whom should I consult... Should I go to a psychiatrist or a psychotherapist... I don't want medicines, I rather want to deal it with therapy...

Hello I can understand your problem. But you didn't mention that for how long it is affecting your mental wealth. For some problems, medications along with therapy will work. As you said, if you don't prefer medications then there are two types of therapies for anxiety disorder. Cognitive behaviour therapy and Exposure therapy. You can just try these therapy, but if it is not working to you, then you have to take medications along with therapy. Practice meditation and breathing exercises. Don't worry. Be relax.

Hi.... First of all calm down because your issues are completely treatable. Please don't look at Therapy and Medication as two different levels of severity of condition, rather these are just 2 methods of treatment that compensate each other. Similarly, Lifestyle changes, Breathing/Meditation, Healthy Diet, and Timely Sleep is also suggested and sometimes a team of professionals (Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Nutritionist, Yoga Trainer, Physiotherapist, Doctor) also work together to help clients recover sooner and better. This doesn't mean that the clients condition is severe or mild. In your case we can start with Therapy alone and see how you are responding to it. If you are recovering with therapy alone, it is best but if not, keep an open mind for medication as well. Medication has an immediacy of effect, which therapy may not have in certain cases. Therapy has a capability of root cause treatment which brings change from within the individual, which medication may not have in certain cases. So be open for both.
