Need Help for Weight Loss and Constipati

2026-06-24 14:18:33
I am a 34-year-old female suffering from chronic constipation with incomplete bowel emptying, bloating, and gas for the past 8 years since pregnancy. I have bowel movements daily, but I never feel completely emptied. Over the last year, my weight increased from 58 kg to 63 kg despite trying diet changes, home remedies, and Siddha treatment. I also spent a significant amount on treatments and abdominal and pelvic scans, which were normal. My recent blood tests showed HbA1c 5.8%, TSH 5.7 with normal T3 and T4, and low iron levels. Liver, kidney, cholesterol, and blood counts are normal. I cannot tolerate high-protein diets as they worsen my bloating and gas. Could my long-standing constipation be contributing to my difficulty losing weight? I would like to lose around 8 kg and would appreciate guidance on managing chronic constipation and achieving healthy weight loss.

Your labs give important clues — a TSH of 5.7 is borderline high (subclinical hypothyroidism), which directly causes constipation, slows metabolism, and leads to weight gain even with normal T3/T4. Your HbA1c of 5.8% is in the prediabetes range, which also promotes fat storage and makes weight loss harder. Low iron adds fatigue to the picture. Chronic constipation from slow gut motility (made worse by hypothyroid tendency) is definitely contributing to bloating, discomfort, and difficulty losing weight. The good news is these are all addressable causes.
Next Steps
Discuss the TSH of 5.7 with your doctor — even borderline hypothyroidism is often treated in symptomatic patients and can significantly improve constipation and weight. Address iron deficiency and prediabetes lifestyle changes (low glycemic diet, walking). Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.

Chronic constipation and weight issues are common and will improve. Borderline TSH and low iron contribute gut motility. A consultation would allow a safe, personalized plan. Feel free to book one.

If all the previous scans are normal. You may consult a nutritionist so that you can get customised plan and it does work in cases of indigestion.
