At the outset I may mention that I have served in High Altitude area. So it is my first hand experience. There are no medicines to avoid High Altitude Sickness. The only answer is Acclimatization. That means you should go slow when you enter High Altitude area. Don't  show that you are smart and you can do things fastest. Similarly, listen to your body. Don't over-exert. If you feel that you are tired then you take rest. Don't think that people will make fun of you. If you develop breathlessness which doesn't settle down in spite of taking rest then go to a doctor.
