• Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment in which knee is applied warm water followed by the immediate application of the knee with ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation.

If your have a full thickness tear of ACL, all the surgeons will recommend surgery. If you are not an athlete or sports person, then you must try conservative management through physiotherapy. A good physiotherapists will aim to resolve the source of pain creating structures and restore the normal movements in your knee and strengthen the muscles that got week after the injury. Even after surgery you have to undergo physiotherapy for one month. So better to try it now only.
Next Steps
Try conservative treatment. Surgery is a last option.
