Your symptoms are most commonly seen with plantar fasciitis (plantar heel pain), particularly if the pain is under the heel and worsens with prolonged standing, walking barefoot, or the first few steps after rest. Cushioned slippers may reduce the pressure on the painful plantar fascia, which can explain why walking barefoot is more painful. Other causes such as heel-pad irritation, Achilles tendon problems, nerve irritation, or occasionally a calcaneal stress injury should be excluded on examination.
Next Steps
Since the pain has persisted for 6 months, please consult an orthopaedic/foot-and-ankle specialist for examination. Initial treatment usually includes plantar-fascia and calf stretching, activity modification, supportive footwear with good cushioning/arch support, heel pads and physiotherapy. Most cases improve without surgery.
If symptoms remain persistent or the examination suggests another cause, an X-ray may be obtained initially; ultrasound or MRI can be considered when soft-tissue pathology is suspected despite normal or inconclusive radiographs.
Health Tips
Avoid prolonged barefoot walking on hard floors and avoid suddenly increasing running or high-impact activity. Do regular calf and plantar-fascia stretching and use supportive footwear rather than very flat slippers. Seek earlier assessment if there is significant swelling, redness/warmth, numbness, night/rest pain, fever, recent injury, or inability to bear weight
