GERD and burning sensation lower esopha

2024-06-24 18:52:55
Hi, I have been suffering from GERD from last 1 year. Feel burning sensation after meals usually 3-4 days a week. Some days are ok. There were 2-3 months which were symptom free and it again came back from last 6 months. Did an antibiotic course and immediately after 2 days all symptoms gone and was feeling super light. After stopping antibiotics symptoms came back. Did HPYLORI stool test which came as negative. Can it still be same?

A negative stool test for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) generally indicates that there is no active infection. However, there are a few considerations: 1. **Sensitivity of the Test**: No diagnostic test is 100% accurate. There is a possibility of a false negative, where the test fails to detect the bacteria even if it is present. 2. **Antibiotic or Proton Pump Inhibitor Use**: Recent use of antibiotics or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) can reduce the accuracy of the test, potentially leading to a false negative result. 3. **Low Bacterial Load**: If the bacterial load is very low, it might not be detected by the stool antigen test. 4. **Sample Handling**: Improper handling or storage of the stool sample can affect the accuracy of the test. If there is a strong clinical suspicion of H. pylori infection despite a negative stool test, other diagnostic methods such as a urea breath test, blood antibody test, or an endoscopy with biopsy may be considered. It's best to discuss the results and next steps with your healthcare provider.

Symptoms keep recurring again and again. Please take frequent courses of PPI under care of some General Physician in your area whom you can approach as and when required.

It could be hpyloti infection , though stool antigen tested negative.Hpylori antigen testing is more accurate at detecting eradication when performed 4-8 weeks post treatment

Which antibiotic did u take ? Did u take H pylori kit ? Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection can indeed be associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) And yes, it can still be an h pylori infection if it has responded to h pylori kit.The test can be false negative. One can do urea breath test or stool antigen test to confirm eradication.
