Hi dear the duration of orthodontic cases usually varies from case to case and age factor , patient compliance and hygiene. Usually it ranges from  1 to 1.5 years.In case you have a busy schedule you can start both the treatments, root canal would be over in a week .

It is difficult to answer if I have incomplete information,what kind of gap is there and how big is the gap,a root canal treatment needs about two weeks to get completed.
