Gap Between Antibiotics and Probiotic

2025-06-22 07:39:30
Dear Doctor, I have been prescribed an H. pylori kit that includes antibiotics along with a probiotic capsule. I wanted to confirm: How much time gap should I maintain between taking the antibiotics and the probiotic capsule? I read on Google that at least a 2-hour gap is generally recommended so that the antibiotics don’t kill the good bacteria in the probiotic. Kindly suggest

Yes there should be gap between antibiotics and probiotics 1-2 hrs . but there are some conditions where you need to take probiotic if you are on antibiotics for a very long time or you are prescribed high dose antibiotics. For short duration antibiotics course like 3 days Or 5 days there is no need for probiotics. High dose of probiotics can cause gas, bloting, constipation etc
Next Steps
kindly observe your course of antibiotics and what kind of antibiotics are prescribed. no need to take probiotics Unnecessarily.
Health Tips
eat good food, drink plenty of fluids and have adequate sleep consult me for any further guidance or treatment

YES , you are absolutely right there should be a gap of at least 1- 2 hours otherwise H pylori kit containing antibiotics will also kill so called good bacteria which is there in probiotics. Probiotics prevent side effect of H pylori antibiotic like diarrhoea and helps in recovery of gut health.
Next Steps
Take first antibiotics 2 hours after that take probiotics.
Health Tips
Eat healthy diet, hygienic and non spicy, less fat. Avoid smoke/ drink.

Thank you for your question. Yes, it’s true that keeping a gap between antibiotics and probiotics helps the probiotic work better. A **2-hour gap** is generally a good rule to follow, but exact timing may vary based on your case. 👉 For personalized guidance, please consult me directly: [https://www.practo.com/rewa/doctor/amit-kumar-patel-generalphysician](https://www.practo.com/rewa/doctor/amit-kumar-patel-generalphysician)
