A long-standing groin infection is most commonly due to fungal infection (tinea cruris / jock itch). The good news is that it is treatable, even if it has been present for a long time. Many chronic cases persist because of incomplete treatment, use of steroid-mixed creams, or reinfection from clothes or sweating. With proper antifungal treatment and hygiene, it can usually be controlled well before your marriage.
Helpful Tips / Word of Caution:
• Avoid using steroid combination creams (very common cause of long-lasting fungal infection).
• Do not share towels, underwear, or clothing with others.
• Wash clothes in hot water and dry them properly in sunlight.
• Treat any fungal infection on feet or other areas as well, as it can spread back to the groin.
